Family initially thought it was minor accident

-

KUALA KANGSAR: The family of Muhammad Nabil Haikal Muhammad Fariz, one of the five victims burnt to death in a fiery accident yesterday, initially thought the 19-year-old was involved in a minor accident.

It was his friend who called his mother, Siti Norazah Bahari, 42, about the accident.

“I thought it was only a minor accident as his friend did not know the real condition of my son at that time. Feeling uneasy, my husband called the friend again.

“It was then we knew that he was no longer with us. I last contacted him yesterday (Wednesday) evening and he asked me about his cat. When I replied to his text, he never texted me back.

“He didn’t tell me that he was going out with friends. We just sent him to Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah (USAS) on Sunday by ETS and it was to be his first time attending physical classes,” said the mother of three.

“I have accepted this as God’s will,” she said, adding that Nabil was in the second semester of a Diploma of Business Administration

course.

Halimi Alias, 50, said his son Iqbal Hasnun, 23 — another victim in the accident — had told his uncle that he won’t be back and would leave forever.

“The last time I met him was on Sunday when I dropped him at his rented home here. We even packed Hari Raya food (kuih) for him.

“Iqbal, the eldest of four siblings, even told his siblings to take care of themselves, and stay close with one another, including their cousins,” he said, adding that Iqbal was in his third semester studying for a Bachelor of Islamic Studies at USAS.

The other deceased are Muhammad Nasrun Aidol Munir Akbar, 22, from Kuala Kubu Baru, Selangor; Ahmad Naim Najmi Ahmad Hafizan, 21, from Cukai, Terengganu; and Ahmad Akmal Ahmad Mokhlis, 20, from Parit Buntar, Perak.

It is learnt that all the victims stayed in the same rented house here. They had gone to Ipoh and were heading back home here when the accident occurred.
