‘ACCIDENT SHOULD BE A LESSON TO ALL’
Take preventive measures, especially in law enforcement, says Perak ruler
THE deaths of five Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah (USAS) students in a tragic accident last week should be a lesson to all parties to improve shortcomings on the road, especially in law enforcement, Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah said.
State secretary Datuk Suaidi Abdul Rahman said Sultan Nazrin, who attended a briefing on the accident yesterday, also said various preventive measures could and should be taken.
“Although death is determined by the Divine (Ilahi), the sultan is of the view that Allah also calls on human beings to strive and endeavour to avoid threats, disasters, dangers and catastrophes.
“Sultan Nazrin believes that many preventive measures could and should be taken, and he ordered all relevant parties to make this tragedy a lesson, identify and accept weaknesses, and make improvements.
“This includes law enforcement and regulations, so such tragic accidents will not happen again,” he said yesterday.
Earlier, Sultan Nazrin, who is USAS chancellor, attended a briefing on the accident at
Km245.2 of the North-South Expressway here on May 12.
Sultan Nazrin was briefed for about an hour by USAS ViceChancellor Tan Sri Dr Nordin Kardi, Perak police chief Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid and Taiping Hospital Forensic Medicine Department head Dr N. Murali.
Suaidi added that Sultan Nazrin also expressed deep sorrow over the incident.
“Sultan Nazrin also expressed his sympathy and condolences to the parents and family members of the victims, who had lost their loved ones, at such a young age and faced death in a very heartbreaking way.
“Sultan Nazrin prayed that parents and family members be given the strength and perseverance to face the severe test of God.
“He also prayed that the souls of the five deceased would receive the grace of the Divine and be placed among the solihin,” he said, adding that the sultan had also donated RM50,000 to all the families of the deceased.
The five students involved in the 12.47am accident were Muhammad Nasrun Aidol Munir Akbar, 22, Iqbal Hasnun Halimi, 23, Muhammad Nabil Haikal Muhammad Fariz, 19, Ahmad Naim Najmi Ahmad Hafizan, 21, and Ahmad Akmal Ahmad Mokhlis, 20.
