1,330 Covid infections, 2 deaths as active cases dip to 21,630

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry reported 1,330 new Covid-19 cases on Monday, bringing the number of active coronaviru­s cases to 21,630.

The ministry’s data-sharing website CovidNow showed that the cumulative Covid-19 cases were now at 4,516,319, since the coronaviru­s hit the country in early 2020.

The ministry also logged 1,811 recoveries on Monday, bringing the total to 4,458,999.

One Covid-19 death was reported in Johor and another in Kelantan.

The case in Kelantan was brought-in-dead to hospital.

The death toll for Covid-19 is now 35,690.

The ministry logged an average of 396 hospital admissions daily, or 12.4 per cent of Covid-19 cases, in the past week.

Currently, 95.5 per cent, or 20,659 of Covid-19 patients are on home quarantine; 4.3 per cent, or 924, are in hospitals with 22 of them in Intensive Care Units (ICU).

Eleven of the ICU patients were in need of respirator­y support.

There were 25 patients in Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres (PKRC).

The ministry also reported that 59.8 per cent of hospital beds in the country were occupied, while 57.6 per cent of ICU beds, 35.7 per cent of ventilator­s and 11.4 per cent of PKRC beds were occupied by Covid-19 patients.

A total of 28,853 Covid-19 tests were reported on Monday, with a 4.4 per cent positivity rate.

On an average of seven days, the ministry reported that 1,602 cases were transmitte­d sporadical­ly, while seven cases were transmitte­d through a cluster.

A total 1,733,437 children aged 5 to 11 have been inoculated against Covid-19 with at least one dose of vaccine, and 1,202,212 of them have completed two doses.
