Smooth like butter
Super soft on the skin, a new range of sheets is just bed linen done right, writes Syida Lizta Amirul Ihsan
LOCAL mattress label Joey has grown by leaps and bounds. Although some of its lineups have hit the right spot, some — at least that’s what I feel — did not. My best friend swears by its mattress and my husband treats his Joey pillow like his best friend. I can’t sleep well on its curved structure, but my husband sleeps on it day in and day out.
And I thought Joey’s blanket, which rolled out last year, was too thick and incomplete because it didn’t come with a cover. The brand says you can use it as-is, but it still looks like a quilt insert to me.
Last month, however, the brand, founded by young entrepreneurs Winson Chong and Joey Tan, launched something that somehow filled up all the existing gaps — a set of bedsheets.
I have used and tried many bedsheet sets and this one is just wow! It feels like butter underneath the skin (not literally, but you get the idea) and it is just so comfortable to sleep on.
MAKING SHEETS SIMPLER
Like the mattress, Chong and Tan’s idea is to make bedsheet shopping simpler. “There is too much information that confuses shoppers, and there’s no way to try the bedsheets properly.
“So our task is to create something that’s easy on the wallet — fine craftsmanship and high-quality materials at half the market price — and something easy to care, dry and put on.
“Touching a bedsheet sample in-store is not enough to know if it’s right for you. So try our sheets at home for 99 nights and keep it only if you love it,” they say.
Priced at between RM195 and RM280, depending on mattress size, the Joey Bedsheet Set comes with pillowcases, bolster case and a bedsheet. It’s made of CloudBamboo fabric that’s incredibly smooth and exceptionally cooling.
I have tried bamboo bedsheets before, but this is up another notch in comfort and cooling features, much needed during humid nights and when you don’t sleep with the air-conditioning on.
The fabric is Aeko-Tex-certified, which is free from harmful substances. It has a sateen weave for maximum softness and sheen with a 300 thread count, which the brand says is optimal for CloudBamboo fabric.
I like it because it fits my mattress nicely without the extra space at the corners. Spread on the mattress, the fitted sheet looks small but the fit is perfect. The 360-degree elastic edge helps achieve this result.
Oh, and the bolster case is sealed at one end to prevent the insert from sliding out. I thought that’s clever.
The brand even provides a little card on how to care for your sheets and a laundry mesh bag to put it in before you throw it in the washing machine.
The mesh bag helps to prevent snagging, which may happen during washing, especially if there are zippers or any metal on other clothing.
FINALLY...
With the sheets, the brand also launched its Joey Blanket Cover, made with exactly the same material as the bedsheet set.
Now, the blanket, which I hardly used before, is beautifully transformed. It’s still thick, but the cover renders it cooler to use on a hot night. It is like waiting for the other shoe to drop and what a relief it was.
The blanket cover comes with loops and ties to secure the blanket in place.
