KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Crime Index rate dropped by 4.1 per cent to 50,819 cases last year from 52,974 in 2021.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said efforts to prevent and eradicate drug-related activities involving all types of narcotic offences continued to be intensified, with 141,346 cases and 163,740 arrests made last year, compared with 108,273 cases and 129,654 arrests in 2021.

“Arrests under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985 also recorded a rise last year with 1,261 people nabbed compared with 1,186 the year before.

This clearly proves that the police remain committed to waging war against the country’s No. 1 enemy.

“Apart from this, the case statistics for commercial crimes showed a drop between January and December last year with 30,536 cases recorded, compared with 31,490 for the same period in 2021,” he said at the IGP’s monthly gathering at the federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman here.

Acryl Sani said the number of cases, arrests and total seizures pertaining to smuggling, migrants and the country’s assets, on the other hand, showed an increase with 2,866 cases, 5,945 arrests and RM495.6 million in seizures recorded between January and December last year compared with 2,811 cases, 4,840 arrests and RM445.9 million in seizures for the same period in 2021.

“Congratulations to all the police officers and personnel who succeeded in maintaining, keeping the momentum of excellence going and remaining committed to their roles while being responsible, in line with the Police Act 1967.

“I hope the level of excellence could be continued to improve the people’s trust and belief in our capability to maintain peace, harmony and public order.”
