BMW delivers 14,400 vehicles to surpass pre-Covid-19 sales
KUALA LUMPUR: BMW Group Malaysia delivered more than 14,400 BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad vehicles last year to surpass its pre-Covid-19 pandemic performance.
More than 70 per cent of the vehicles were locally assembled, which further cemented the German marque’s leading position in the premium segment in Malaysia.
Managing director Hans de Visser said while the company experienced a slowdown in 2020 and chip shortage in most parts of 2021, 2022 had been a stellar year of recovery and growth for BMW Malaysia.
“Our achievements have been nothing short of extraordinary as we not only matched but far surpassed our performance from even before the pandemic.
“It is to our customers, dealers and associates of BMW Group Malaysia that we attribute all this success to for without their support, dedication and passion for the brand, we would not have so graciously kept our No. 1 position in the Malaysian premium automotive segment for a third consecutive year,” he said in a statement yesterday.
The company said more than 31 per cent of all BMW and MINI deliveries last year were electrified vehicles.
The BMW brand delivered 11,800 vehicles while MINI contributed 1,300 units.
Meanwhile, BMW Motorrad delivered over 1,300 motorcycles.
BMW launched 17 model variants last year, including the allnew fully-electric BMW i presented at NEXTGen Malaysia — a three-day conference on sustainability organised by BMW Malaysia in January last year.
de Visser said this year would see an expansion of BMW’s product lineup in Malaysia, coupled with new sustainability undertakings in collaboration with key industry players.
“The year ahead is building up to be an exciting one and we are ready to continue delivering not just the ‘Premium Ownership Experience’, as we have done for the last two decades, but also ‘Sheer Electric Driving Pleasure’.
“As we charge into the new year, we look forward to new opportunities in every aspect of sustainability, beginning with our existing partners in sustainable solutions,” said de Visser.
