4 frameworks on carbon capture projects planned

Sarawak has emphasised the importance of preparing four frameworks before embarking on carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) projects.

State Deputy Energy and Environmental Sustainability Minister Dr Hazland Abang Hipni said the four frameworks were legal; technical; finance, business and taxation; and human resources.

He was speaking as a panellist at the H2Asia 2023 Conference, which was organised by the Ezra & Macquarie Group, in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.

He also stressed the state government’s proactive approach to creating a symbiotic relationship between environmental conservation and economic prosperity regarding CCUS.

“Sarawak’s ongoing and prospective CCUS initiatives not only align with the state’s commitment to climate action but also open new avenues for economic growth,” he said.

Themed “Fuelling Our Future with H2 and CCUS,” the conference provided a platform for immersive discussions centring on project financing, technological advancements, industry updates and the policy panorama.

As Sarawak is set to host the Asia Pacific Green Hydrogen Conference and Exhibition next year, Hazland encouraged attendees to participate in the forthcoming event at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching in July next year.

APGH 2024 will propel Sarawak to the forefront of the green hydrogen revolution in the region and delve deeper into the realm of sustainable energy solutions.

Sarawak’s ongoing and prospective CCUS initiatives not only align with the state’s commitment to climate action but also open new avenues for economic growth.
