Malaysian students report hearing blasts, seeing fires

-

Several Malaysian students in the Middle East reported hearing explosions and seeing fires on Saturday night and early Sunday from the missile and drone attacks against Israeli military targets by Iran.

They said they were scared for their lives, but were reportedly safe in their respective locations.

A Malaysian student in Jordan known only as Amal, on her X account @amalamnani, reported seeing lights and hearing explosions near her residence.

“Ya Allah, if anything happens to me, I accept it Ya Allah. I’m totally scared, and I just want to return to my country.

“The sound of the bombs is very loud! We saw drones crossing Jordan to reach Israel. Many students here recorded drones in the sky, even above their own residences. Allahuakbar. Please pray for us,” she said.

A student at Mu’tah University in Jordan named Mohammed

Syahmiel Izzuwa claimed that as a result of the attacks, fires were started in a number of locations.

He was also able to record the intense moment and posted it on his TikTok account @_syhmiel.

Students, he said, were advised to return home promptly after lectures and avoid spending unnecessary time outdoors.

The attacks were launched for what Teheran said was a retaliation for the bombings of its consulate in Damascus on April 1. Most of the missiles and drones were shot down by Israeli defences.

The Foreign Ministry had said on Sunday that the attacks by Iran had ended, but said it was monitoring the situation.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, in advising Malaysians to defer any planned trips to Iran for now, said the government was ready to evacuate Malaysians from the Middle East should the need arise.
