‘Free shipping among critical motivators’

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Sixty per cent of Generation Z (Gen Z) shoppers prioritise platforms that offer easy search, comparison features and useful reviews on products and reliability.

In shopping platform Shopee’s “Engaging Generation Z Shoppers in the Digital Era” survey, 30 per cent of the respondents strategise their purchase, holding over 70 per cent of items in their cart for more than a day to conduct research before buying.

“When asked about their increasing tendency to check out items, six of 10 shoppers prioritise user experience features such as product restock reminders, flash deals and voucher applications.

“Additionally, easy order cancellation and price comparison tools are highly sought after while the remaining 40 per cent look for efficient platform delivery services to finalise their purchases.

“Free shipping, competitive pricing, attractive promotions, discounts and vouchers are critical motivators for 83 per cent of the respondents, demonstrating their focus on getting the most for their money,” it said.

Product quality appears to be a secondary factor when choosing a purchase channel.

“Over 75 per cent actively seek out reviews from both users and experts before making a purchase. Engaging with sellers through chat features and comparing products across brands are also common practices for this generation.” Shopee Malaysia marketing and business intelligence head Ming Kit Tan said Gen Z represented a growth opportunity for the platform, with features like “Shopee Live” providing users with information beyond just product listings and empowering them.

“It fosters a relationship between seller and buyer, allowing a sense of trust to be built between each interaction.

“Such hyper-personalised experiences function as a valueadded service,” he said.
