BERSATU will serve a notice on its seven elected representatives who declared their support for the unity government to compel them to vacate their parliamentary and state seats after the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin said the party’s supreme council was set to hold a meeting after the May 11 by-election to discuss the next course of action against the party rebels.

“Based on the instructions of the party’s supreme council, we will hold a meeting after the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

“A day after the meeting, we will serve the six MPs, who declared their support for the unity government, with a notice.

“We were supposed to hold the meeting at the nearest time, but we wanted to first focus on the by-election,” he said after attending a Hari Raya celebration for the Larut parliamentary constituency in Felda Ijok here.

Dubbed the “Bersatu rebels”, the six MPs who declared their support for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his unity government are Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) and Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).

Last month, Selat Klang assemblyman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari became the seventh Bersatu elected representative to declare his support for the unity government.

Hamzah said the action against the party rebels also served as a reminder and lesson to other Bersatu MPs and assemblymen on the importance of loyalty towards the party.

Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had on Saturday confirmed that the party was taking action against the rebels according to the party’s amended constitution.

“We will comply with the procedures so that we make no mistakes.

“Those responsible must face whatever actions that are taken against them,” said Muhyiddin, who is also Perikatan Nasional chairman.
