Statements taken on paedophilia allegations

-

KOTA BARU: Police have recorded statements from 14 people to facilitate investigations into the case of a Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) Tumpat teacher accused of paedophilia.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said investigators had finished recording statements.

He said police had identified the person who had uploaded allegations about the matter on social media — a former MRSM student.

“We have sent the investigation paper on the case to the deputy public prosecutor’s office and are awaiting their response.”

Last month, Zaki confirmed that police had received a report lodged by the teacher accused of paedophilia at MRSM Tumpat for defamation.

The report, he said, was lodged by the teacher against a female student who had made a posting accusing him of the act.

Following the report, police opened an investigation paper under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or services to make or spread comments online.

It was reported that Mara had directed an investigation into the allegations. Chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said a team from Mara headquarters was set up to conduct the investigation and would soon go to MRSM Tumpat.

He said the teacher had been suspended until the investigation was completed.

On March 28, a person made a post alleging that a teacher at MRSM Tumpat was still permitted to teach at the boarding school despite allegations of paedophilia against him.
