JUSTIN CHAI and YEOH PEI NEE recount the whirlwind celebration of their recent #Just Married Nee nuptials and tell us why couples who cook together stay together

“We actually stayed up last night Watching Masterchef,” Nee divulges further in between our lunch break, letting me in on one of their favourite pastimes as a couple together. It comes as no surprise then that the endearing duo share an innate affinity for good food, constantly in search of the next epicurean adventure across the globe, a distinctive attribute which brought them together in the first place. “Our love for food is really important. We love trying new places,” Nee adds. Sporting identical sun-kissed glows from their recent honeymoon in the Maldives, Justin and Nee share a genuine sense of camaraderie and affection, walking hand-in-hand along the undulating shorelines of Tanjong Jara beach where we spend the day shooting the couple for our August cover spread.

Although they knew of each other since a decade ago, they were only officially introduced by a mutual friend a few years ago in Kuala Lumpur. At that time, Nee was in the midst of relocating to Singapore due to work commitments and a friend introduced her to Justin who was working in Singapore as a commercial finance business partner. “It was more of a set-up actually,” laughs Nee while recalling the story of how they met. After a quick meal with a group of friends, the duo found themselves concluding the night at Nee’s home to watch the rugby world cup. “There was no rugby channel though. It ended up being a girls’ night as I was the only guy there and the rest fell asleep so it was just me and Nee talking throughout a movie,” Justin shares fondly.

“Masterchef Australia or Masterchef USA? ” It’s just past

mid-day on a sleepy Friday afternoon and I’m in the midst of a light-hearted debate with newlyweds Justin Chai and

Yeoh Pei Nee on which Masterchef edition they

favour best. “Definitely Masterchef Australia,” quips Pei Nee, fondly known as Nee among friends and family. “It’s really educational and you get to learn so much about food,” she enthuses, while Justin

echoes in agreement.
