SWEET SYMPHONY
Yamaha combines innovation with elegant craftsmanship with the SX Series premium pianos
Yamaha, a brand synonymous with exquisite music instruments, introduces the SX Series premium pianos. A coming together of professionals and leading engineers, the SX Series is the brand’s interpretation of a premium piano that blends traditional craftsmanship, exceptional artistry and modern innovation. Continuing the legacy of the S Series with a modern touch, the SX Series is the first acoustic piano to utilise the Yamaha Acoustic Resonance Enhancement (A.R.E), this also results in a warmer deeper and more expressive timbre with a beautifully-sustained resonance that is typically found in instruments crafted with highquality aged tonewood.
Staying true to the brand’s constant drive to deliver only the best-quality instruments, Yamaha invests more than US$200 million in R&D annually, this investment has paid dividends time and time again, with the SX Series being another sign that the brand isn’t about to slow down anytime soon. First incorporated into other Yamaha wooden instruments such as the Artdida violin, A.R.E technology accelerates the woodageing process with specialised equipment that controls temperature, humidity and atmospheric pressure. This accelerated process thus results in the highly-coveted “sweet sound” being achieved in a much shorter time. Furthermore, the A.R.E technology has low environmental impact, as no chemicals are used in the treatment process.
Available in three sizes, the SX Series also brings along a new hammer structure that promises enhanced elasticity, this results in a wider tonal spectrum when the instrument goes through voicing by a technician. Also infused with the SX Series is the same soundboard scale design of the CFX concert grand, Yamaha’s flagship instrument. In terms of overall build, each SX Series piano boasts typical Yamaha perfection in terms of quality and craftsmanship. Advancing a tradition of Japanese craftsmanship, Yamaha artisans and engineers pay attention to every detail, overseeing everything from hard-wound bass strings to exclusive felt material development in ensuring the discerning customer’s taste in only the highest quality is rewarded.
Strong and flexible, the SX Series is in a class of its own, with a silhouette that veers away from the traditional, it is a tribute to the design philosophy behind Yamaha’s grand pianos, which is to seek simplicity over time. Inspired the concept of “soaring vertical curves”, this is especially represented through the gentle curve of the S-shaped arms at either ends of the keybed, along with the legs and pedal support that arch like the taut limbs of an athlete. This, paired with the area around the pedal box that has evolved to possess gently-curving contours, results in every part of the piano in complete harmony.
