36 Michelle Sin

Safety First

Prestige (Malaysia) - - Hublot -

It’s been 10 years since Michelle Sin took the plunge and joined her family business but the executive director of SKB Shutters is not one to rest on her laurels as she leads the company into a new era – one she proudly pronounces as the era of expansion. Her gradual growth in the company from task executor to more senior roles has equipped her with the know-how to address the current challenges of an increasingly-border less market and concurrently earn the trust of the board and her team.

Since its inception in 1957, SKB Shutters has flourished from a small manufacturing business to establishing itself as one of the major players in the region in the business of roller shutters and steel doors. “With the fast-moving trend in technology these days, popular trends where shutters are controlled using apps and connected to smart home systems are gaining traction. There is also a huge awareness in the region especially concerning fire safety in public areas as well as emphasis on occupational health and safety in factories and warehouses, where design of storage systems plays an important element,” says Michelle.

As a family business, she cites communication and the harmonisation of family as an integral element to achieve sustainability in the long run. With numerous achievements under her portfolio, Michelle hopes to be able to give back to society one day in a meaningful and purposeful way by teaching the less fortunate children.
