THE ARLI
After staging the brand’s Autumn/Winter 2018 collection in an operating theatre, Gucci Creative Director Alessandro Michele follows up with another phenomenal set for its
Cruise 2019 collection: the Promenade des Alyscamps, the grounds of an ancient Roman cemetery in the French city of Arles. “The collection is an idea about life, not an idea about death,” explained Michele. “Cemeteries are beautiful; there’s something fascinating that belongs to that world. It is no coincidence that music and cinema are often about that world; we’re pulled to something that is and isn’t.” Just as the city captivated artists Vincent van Gogh and Pablo Picasso, the time-forgotten Arles must have enthralled Michele too, as he introduced the new Arli bag on the Cruise runway in three versatile day-to-evening silhouettes: a top-handle bag, a shoulder bag and its smaller rendition. The iconic Double G hardware graces each Arli, which is rendered in leather, suede or exotic skins such as python and ostrich.
