Encrusted with brilliant diamonds, the new Rolex Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 36 is a radiant reimagining of the iconic collection
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual collection has long been recognised as iconic watches that successfully marry elegance and practicality, offering useful functions while exuding a timeless, classic feel. Adding further spark to the experience are the new versions of the Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 36, a diamondencrusted reimagining that features enamel index hour markers and vibrantly coloured polished alligator leather straps.
Following the Day-Date’s launch in 1956, it made its mark in history as the first wristwatch to indicate the day of the week spelt out in full in an arc-shaped window positioned on the dial at 12 o’clock, in addition to the date display. This was a technical feat at the time, leading to the prestigious model quickly winning the hearts of many of the world’s political figures, as well as directors and visionaries, rightfully earning it the moniker “presidents’ watch”.
The newly introduced three gem-set, colourful additions continue the tradition, featuring the same iconic day and date displays. Setting t hem apart are the 254 brilliant-cut diamonds on the lugs, lug caps and case sides and the 52 brilliant-cut diamonds on the bezel.
The watch in 18 ct yellow gold comes with a captivating coral-coloured alligator leather strap, while the 18 ct Everose gold version is beautifully complemented with burgundy. The third shade available is a striking turquoise, which accompanies the 18 ct white gold model. Each strap is fitted with a 18 ct gold folding Crownclasp that is set with 61 brilliant-cut diamonds, matches the colour of the enamel index hour markers, as well as the Roman numerals VI and IX, found on the diamondpaved dial of the respective watches.
As is evident from their inclusion in the Oyster Perpetual collection, these three models are each encased by a waterproof Oyster case that is 36 mm in diameter and whose crystal is made of scratch-resistant sapphire and fitted with a Cyclops lens over the date for easy reading.
The new versions also feature calibre 3255, a self-winding mechanical movement that incorporates the Rolex-patented Chronergy escapement. It is insensitive to magnetic fields thanks to its nickel-phosphorus component, while its optimised blue Parachrom hairspring, which makes it up to 10 times more precise than a traditional hairspring in case of shocks, is equipped with a Rolex overcoil that ensures the regularity of the calibre in any position.
As is the norm with Rolex watches, the Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 36 carries the Superlative Chronometer certification, guaranteeing a precision after casing of within -2/+2 seconds per day. The Superlative Chronometer status is symbolised by the green seal that comes with each and every Rolex watch, paired with an international five-year guarantee.
