The iconic Louis Vuitton V signature gets a temporary twist in the minimalist yet stylish Pure V collection
Amidst the plethora of luxury brands in the high fashion world, Louis Vuitton is instantly recognisable by its distinctive V signature. Highlighting this iconic emblem is the Louis Vuitton Pure V Collection, a superbly elegant high jewellery collection that focuses on eight precious models each bearing the stylistic V.
Francesca Amfitheatrof, Artistic Director of Watches and Jewelry at Louis Vuitton, explains that her latest creation, which focuses on the majestic emblem at its core, aims to “express the essence of the V.” Amfitheatrof adds a contemporary twist to it, while taking inspiration from the minimalist Art Deco-inspired V signature placed by Gaston-Louis Vuitton on his luggage during the 1920s to the 1930s.
Stating that the glimpses of skin revealed when the piece is worn are as important as the jewel itself, the Artistic Director ensures that the bold V signature utilises a play on upstrokes and downstrokes to enhance the architectural silhouette of each piece, creating a minimalistic adaptation that is chic and cutting edge, perfect for women who look for versatile high jewellery that can be worn seamlessly either with casual outfits or formal attires.
Consisting of eight jewels equally divided among necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings, Louis Vuitton Pure V Collection strikes a perfect balance with its uniformed employment of the same colours and materials throughout each piece. Gold and diamond white, as well as onyx black in certain pieces, adorn the collection that fully encapsulates pure 21st century reimagining.
The contemporary update is visible in the appearance of the rings and bracelets, which, though reminiscent of the black and white pieces of France’s Les Années folles with its alternating line of baguette diamonds and onyx and triangular diamonds, exudes modern, minimalist sophistication in its perfectly proportioned and ultra-streamlined design.
Reflected in the earring design is the same principle of contemporary chic, shining bright through the monochromatic diamond circles of the earrings that sparkle all the way to the back of the earlobe. Comprised of two sets, one pair of the earrings glimmers in all white and the other is emblazoned with a black onyx V on each piece.
Just as striking are the necklaces, also comprised of either a full white gold piece or a bicolour version that utilises both white gold and black onyx in its design.
Simplistic in its elegance, the focus of the white gold necklace is its central V that features a radiant 2-carat pear-shaped diamond. The bicolour version, meanwhile, showcases a glamourous Art Deco-inspired choker composed of white gold punctuated by the occasional black onyx, with a triangular diamond adorning its iconic central V pattern as the finishing touch.
