KEEP IT CASUAL, COOL AND COLLECTED
Beat the Street
The first drop of Moncler’s collaboration with musician and “godfather of streetwear” Hiroshi Fujiwara comprises a wide range of bombers, puffers, workwear jackets and other outerwear. Security patches with the new logo derived from Moncler’s vintage labels are slick and very cool.
Scents and Sensibility
Award-winning actor Richard Madden has a new gig: blue-eyed model for Calvin Klein’s latest men’s fragrance, Defy. Created by master perfumer Anne Flipo and senior perfumers Pascal Gaurin and Loc Dong of IFF, the scent is a blend of citrus highlighted by crisp bergamot and fresh lavender absolute. At its heart is vetiver oil, which complements its rich and alluring base of amber.
Strut in Style
Painter Peter Doig’s leap into the world of fashion, in partnership with
Kim Jones of Dior, has everyone abuzz. The latest collection reinvents the masculine wardrobe to showcase the work of the Scottishborn, Trinidadbased artist. Look for the camouflage motif in menswear and accessories.
Shades of Black
Known for leather goods since 1895, Berluti has released a new range of eyewear that has our heads tilted in surprise. Mixing contemporary luxury with timeless craftsmanship, they’re the latest must-have accessory from
designer Kris Van Assche.
Get the Boot
Marrying function with form,
Giorgio Armani’s latest boots from the autumn/
winter 2021 collection should become a seasonal
staple. They come in a range of dark hues, but the chocolate brown suede tops
our must-have list.
FOR THOSE FINICKY INDIVIDUALS WHO SIMPLY MUST HAVE THEIR WATCH’S SECOND HAND IN ITS OWN SUBDIAL, OMEGA HAS JUST RELEASED A SMALLSECONDS VERSION OF ITS SEAMASTER AQUA TERRA. AVAILABLE IN 38 OR 41MM SIZES AND A VARIETY OF MATERIALS AND DIAL COLOURS, THE WATCHES FEATURE A METAS-CERTIFIED CO-AXIAL CHRONOMETER CALIBRE, AND A DATE WINDOW INCORPORATED WITHIN THE SUBDIAL
Let’s Get Bronzed
Although Tudor has already added no fewer than 12 additions to its Black Bay range since the start of 2021
— for the record, they’re the Ceramic, Fifty-Eight 18K, Fifty-Eight 925, six new Chrono variations, and silver-dial versions of the 32, 36 and 41 — that hasn’t stopped the Rolex offshoot from throwing yet another iteration into
the product mix. This time it’s the Fifty-Eight Bronze, which, as the name suggests, comes with 39mm case and bracelet made from the copper alloy, and also features a lovely gradient chocolate dial and bezel, as well as a complimentary two-tone fabric strap. Aside from a new riveted bracelet with five-way-adjustable clasp and numbers on the dial, this is otherwise the Fifty-Eight we
all know and love (not least for its superbly accurate COSC-certified MT5400 movement), though one whose gorgeous looks will forever fascinate by slowly and subtly
changing over time.
Code Breaker
Unveiled in early 2019 to much controversy, Audemars Piguet’s Code 11.59 has, with the passage of time and the unveiling of many more variations on the theme, come to be regarded with considerably less vehemence. While the design still polarises (and that’s especially true of the time-and-date references), there’s no disputing the iconoclastic confidence, the artistry and the technical virtuosity on display. The two new versions of the Selfwinding Chronograph, in white and pink gold, are no exception, with 41mm two-tone case featuring an octagonal ceramic centre, smoked grey dial with gold indexes and hands, and exquisitely finished flyback chronograph Calibre 440, which provides up to 70 hours of power. It’s 2021: time to embrace the future.
Wild at Heart
We’re pretty much fans of any Zenith watch that bears the famous El Primero name, but the new Chronomaster Revival Safari, which
references the A384 of yore, definitely sets our bell clanging. With squared-off 37mm case, pushers and crown all in stealthy microblasted titanium, matte-green dial with black subdials and tachymetre track, beige registers and khaki fabric strap, this really does look the outdoor business, while the automatic El Primero 400 calibre, which beats at 5Hz for a 50-hour reserve, translates those intentions into impressive action. We’d have to admit that a date window at 4.30 would normally get the thumbs down, but as here its green colour blends in almost imperceptibly with the dial we can live
with that quite happily too.
Keep It Simple
Founded by the Swiss watchmaker and polymath Ludwig Oechslin, and known for the unique simplicity of its mechanisms and designs, niche manufacturer Ochs und Junior is celebrating its 15th anniversary by releasing a special-edition trilogy of its moonphase watch in three stunningly colourful interpretations. Available only by pre-order before January 1, 2022, the 39mm, grade 5 titanium-encased watches, which can be bought either singly or as a trilogy via oj@ochundjunior.ch, are powered by an ETA-based movement equipped with Oechslin’s remarkable epicyclic moonphase module, whose calibration is claimed to be precise for almost 3,500 years. All you have to do is live that long.
