ODE TO VANILLA
Prized by both chefs and perfumers, vanilla is, not surprisingly, at the heart of Dior’s latest perfume, Vanilla Diorama. Dior perfumer-creator François Demachy specifically chose a Bourbon vanilla from Madagascar for its multi-faceted aroma, to create a scent whose hint of sweetness is contrasted with bitter liqueur, with finishing touches of cardamom and pink peppercorn.
Just the Quintessential
Perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud wanted to deconstruct the very architecture of perfume, removing the top, heart and base notes and focus on the essence of each olfactory family — and that’s how Louis Vuitton’s Les Extraits Collection of five fragrances was born. Dancing Blossom: jasmine sambac, May rose, osmanthus and Indian tuberose mingle and play, like a cascade of flowers swirling in the wind. Each bottle is topped by a flacon cap designed by Frank Gehry, who sought to capture movement and was also inspired by his own passion for sailing.
