Meeting of Both Worlds

IT WAS DURING AN AUDITION FOR ZAHIR’S “FLY BY NIGHT” THAT KIM AND ZAHIR FIRST MET, BUT THE BRIEF ENCOUNTER WAS SOON FORGOTTEN.

“I was actually really busy that day, and when we started dating, Kim reminded me of that moment years ago when she was there and said I seemed stuck-up. So, I apologised to her,” laughs Zahir.

Since then, it was only two years ago that the pair met again through mutual friends and started forming a friendship.

“We enjoyed each other’s company and talking to each other. We found that we had many similarities, especially the fact that both of us have our own kids,” says Kim.

“Having someone like Zahir understand my role is great. It is not easy to find someone who is not selfish and I’m thankful that he is very kindhearted,” she adds.

Individually, both Kim and Zahir are great examples of what co-parenting with their previous partners should and could be. Managing a good familial relationship for their children is a testament that a nucleus family is not the only type of acceptable family especially in this day and age. The best kind of family is what you make of it.

“It takes time and communication is key for the best interest of the kids,” shares Zahir.

“Co-parenting for me came very naturally. Me and Keith have always been friends. From separation to the divorce, we have remained friendly and are close to each other’s families,” says Kim. “It’s important to not hold on to the past or bad feelings.”

Being supportive of each other as parents, both Kim and Zahir are now building the blocks to introduce the girls to each other as the first step for their future.

“Our daughters have not met, and I would like to wait until Skylar is at an age where she is able to understand things a bit more. Same goes with Zahir’s kids. Even though they are older, I feel like we need to prioritise what they feel and think,” says Kim.

Happily basking in their courtship, the pair feel like it is the right time to address and redefine what the definition of a partnership could be in the new age. As things have been smooth sailing for the them, the question of tying the knot in the near future is hot on everyone’s lips and Kim and Zahirdo not deny the possibility.

“Maybe. We’re not saying ‘ no’ and we’re not going to put any pressure. Let’s see,” smiles Kim cheekily.
