As a former science student who studied genetics, Leland believed that his wife, Sian Chiew, was on the right track in starting the natural skincare brand, Root Remedies. With their complementary skills, she as the creative and he as the business-minded marketer, the duo found quick success in serving a market that was looking for more chemical-free products.

“More than 90 per cent of our products consists of natural ingredients. We aim to never have our products have a natural to synthetic ratio of more than 9:1,” says Leland.

Garnering a great response in the local market, Leland is now setting his sights on growing the brand’s presence overseas. By enabling international shipping, he also hopes to bring Malaysian skincare products that use local ingredients the recognition they deserve.

“From the ingredients we use, to the way we market our products, it is all done in a minimalist way to cause less impact to the environment. We hope more people would look into Root Remedies as a more sustainable and viable way of consuming skincare products,” says Leland.
