Empowering Womencentric Content
“One of the things that I looked at was that there were really no shows for myself. I was looking for content that I wanted to watch and I hardly saw it.”
Starting of as a successful producer with many commercials under her name, Lina Tan questioned the work she was doing and decided to form her own production house that served a bigger purpose: focusing on issues to do with women.
“When I started RED Communications, one of the things that I looked at was that there were really no shows for myself. I was looking for content that I wanted to watch and I hardly saw it.”
Her most memorable production was "3R - Respect, Relax, Respond", a ground-breaking programme that ran for 15 years. It not only empowered and highlighted issues faced by women, but was also wittily entertaining.
With the show serving as a role model for many young girls, the production house used to receive between 10,000 to 20,000 emails and letters, with some even being pleas for help. This prompted Lina to work with organisations like All Women's Action Society ( AWAM) and Women's Aid Organisation (WAO).
Currently sitting on the board of the National Film Development Corporation (FINAS), Lina continues to empower women creatives and women-centric content.
