Dr. Nur Amalina Che Bakri has always wanted to be a doctor.
“I care about people, and having the opportunity to make a dif ference and save lives daily is amazing,” she explains. Awarded the Kijang Emas Scholarship f rom Bank Negara Malaysia, she worked hard to complete her studies in t he United Kingdom. There, she had access to some of the best teaching hospitals in the world.
Her hard work also won her a clinical research fellowship at Imperial College London. “I think it is impor tant for doc tors to get involved in medical research so that they can advance their skills i n their area of speciality, be a bet ter clinician and contribute towards the world of science and medicine,” she says.
Her PhD i n surgical innovation and breast cancer using wearable ac tivit y monitors to improve patient outcomes is funded by the National I nstitute f or Health and Care Research (NIHR). The young doc tor shares that the secret to her success lies in hard work and self-discipline.
She aspires to excel i n her speciality and be a role model wor thy of emulation. “I hope t o contribute scientifically and make advances that save lives and change the world, even if only a lit tle bit. I also want to become more involved in education as sharing knowledge is so impor tant to younger generations.”
