Professor Datin Paduka Dr. K hatijah Yusoff is an academician and acclaimed v irolog ist, k now n for her extensive work on the Newcastle Disease Virus (N DV) that causes fata l infection in pou ltr y. She was born in Penang and won a Colombo Plan Scholarship to La Trobe Universit y, Austra lia , for her tertiar y education where she g raduated w ith a First-Class Honours in Microbiolog y in 1979. She also won a La Trobe Universit y research scholarship to complete her PhD on “Genetic and molecu lar ana lysis of plasmid R P1: Interactions w ith prophage B3 and aspects of conjuga l transmission.” She now conducts research on the understanding of v irus-cancer cel l interactions.
