EChinese bronze tapir-form vessel Auctioned by Christie’s in New York for US$ 100,000 ( RM392,000).

xpertly inlaid with gold and silver, this ritual wine vessel (also known as a ‘zun’) soared past its initial estimate of US$40,000 at Christie’s JF Chen Collection auction. The tapir-shaped vessel – which stands with its mouth slightly open, below a curled snout – dates back to the 17th or 18th century. The tapir’s pointed ears are flared with a fanshaped gold inlay, while its body and face are decorated with foliate and scrollwork. A carved hongmu wood stand accompanies the vessel. www.christies.com
