Whole grains are one of the health­i­est foods avail­able. A high in­take of whole grains pro­tects against Type 2 di­a­betes and car­dio­vas­cu­lar dis­eases – and re­searchers have man­aged to find out how in a new study led by the Univer­sity of Eastern Fin­land. Fol­low­ing a 12-week diet rich in whole grain prod­ucts, re­search par­tic­i­pants reg­is­tered in­creased lev­els of be­taine com­pounds.
