Meisan Szechuan
WHY GO
This long-standing restaurant built its reputation on its excellent Szechuan cuisine served in a traditional ornate setting, albeit one that may need a sprucing up.
TATLER TIPS
The range of menu is comprehensive, offering both authentic Szechuan dishes and an exquisite spread of Southeast Asian fare such as sambal and tom yam.
• Try the signature sea cucumber soup with fish lips, which is tasty with a satisfying contrast in texture.
• Crowd-pleasers include the prawn balls tossed in a sweet, salty and spicy dried chilli sauce and studded with cashew nuts; and the fried cod fish that is soft and moist on the inside, and lightly fried to a pleasing crisp on the outside.
• Be sure to order the restaurant’s Peking duck with tender flavourful meat and crispy glazed skin served two ways.
