One of the few Malay fine dining restaurant­s around, Bunga Emas offers modern twists to Malay dishes as well as more traditiona­l fare.

TATLER TIPS

The menu has some hits and a few misses. Some dishes don’t match their descriptio­ns although they come up to par taste-wise.

Be sure to order the hot and sour fish soup, which is very well-balanced and comes studded with chunks of catfish. The cashew- and raisin-studded nasi briyani is the perfect foil for the aromatic and piquant braised king prawns in cumin-coriander gravy, pan-fried duck breast in green spiced sauce and lamb rack in curried red pepper sauce with mashed breadfruit and pomegranat­e chutney. Order the nangka madu, delicious fried honey jackfruit dumpling with zingy coconut chutney and accompanie­d by pearl sago, honey jackfruit and palm sugar broth.
