Tatler Dining Malaysia

Grandmama’s

-

If ever you’re craving for some good old- fashioned Malaysian staples, Grandmama’s is worth a stop-over. Located in Pavilion’s food enclave on the sixth floor, the restaurant is a comfortable space to dine with friends, colleagues and family.

The sang har egg noodle is a signature dish that is topped with two huge freshwater prawns and the crispy egg noodles are literally drowning in flavourful egg gravy with prawn roe. The ginger onion beef kway teow is another winner, with wok-charred silky flat rice noodles and generous portions of tender beef in a thick egg sauce.

The nasi ayam istimewa is not ‘special’ for nothing. With Grandmama’s signature fried chicken drumstick together with fragrant tri-coloured butter-herb rice topped with a fried egg, plus side accompaniments of shredded beef rendang and asam prawns, the dish is a medley of flavours that satisfy the tastebuds.

Another signature dish is the fish head curry hot pot. There is ample fish meat, and the rich, flavourful curry is chockfull of ingredients like tau foo pok, ladies fingers and cabbage. This is best served with fluffy white rice, to mop up the light, fragrant sauce.

To round up the meal, the chilled mango and pomelo cream is a winner. Engulfed in smooth mango puree, the sweetness from the cubed mangoes, a burst of tanginess from the pomelo sacs plus the chewiness of the sago pearls, all make for a light and refreshing dessert, leaving one happy and satisfied.
