River Café

-

Easily accessible from Jonker Walk, this riverside café is great for dates, groups or families. The menu here is a mix of both Malaysian and Western favourites. The buffalo chicken wings is a good start to the meal. The portion is big enough for two people and the blue cheese dip goes great with the wings.

The Mesclun greens mix is a tasty, well-balanced dish. It contains sundried tomatoes, asparagus, ar tichokes, tomatoes and olives, and goes perfectly with the fresh orange segments. The salad is topped with crispy garlic croutons and fresh and firm grilled prawns.

The Nyonya laksa has a thick broth and is chock full of goodies such as fish balls, prawns, tofu and eggs, served with al dente noodles. With its lovely balance of textures and flavours, this is a dish that will keep you coming back for more. The chicken asam curry is well balanced and has just the right amount of tamarind while the chicken pieces are tender and flavourful from the infusion of the curry paste.

The prawn petai sambal has a lovely kick and some might find it a little too spicy. The sambal is well-seasoned and goes wonderfullydfll withith ththe jjuicyi prawns. The Nyonya chap chai — cabbage, carrot and mushrooms with bean curd skin — is cooked perfectly as the vegetables still retain their crunch. The kocik ngo hiong — minced chicken rolled in bean curd skin and fried — is absolutely delicious. It is seasoned well, firm and has a nice texture — a clear winner!

The cendol is simple with just coconut milk, red beans, cendol and generous amounts of palm sugar syrup, which gives this dessert its rich and creamy flavour.
