Alto Sky Lounge
While rooftop restaurants in Kuala Lumpur enforce strict dress codes, you may be able to get away with flip flops and shorts at Alto Sky Lounge. Welcome to Malacca, KL’S laidback littler cousin! Start with the Caesar salad—hokkaido scallops are a nice departure from the usual chicken—before digging in to your mains. During our visit, the Pollo Citronella proved succulent and had pleasant bits of char. Likewise, the lamb was expertly grilled. Small discrepancies point at a lack of attention to detail, such as discontinued dishes still being listed on the menu and the slow service. Alto Sky Lounge’s strength lies in its diverse drinks menu, which focuses on cocktails, some infused with local ingredients, all fairly priced. Hop over to the rooftop bar (also part of Hatten Hotel’s Sky Lounge) for a nightcap where, like we said earlier, flip flops and shorts won’t be entirely frowned upon.
