Tatler Dining Malaysia

Lai Po Heen

-

Specialising in pork-free Cantonese cuisine and situated in the prestigious Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur, Lai Po Heen is slightly difficult to find if it’s your first time. Once you discover the clandestine entrance, however, you’ll enter a world of fine china and glamour. A glass wall allows diners to observe the heat and excitement of the kitchen’s goings on, and private rooms equipped with large sliding doors provide ample privacy—perfect for celebrations and business meetings. One of Lai Po Heen’s signatures, the Peking duck roasted to crispy perfection, is definitely a crowd pleaser. Also order the wok-fried cubes of beef tenderloin, which are skilfully seared on the outside but pink and juicy on the inside. The restaurant’s proximity to the city centre is a boon, but the shoddy service could use a bit of polishing to make the restaurant truly shine.

TATLER TIP

Reserve a table next to the floor to ceiling windows for unequalled views of the breath-taking Petronas Twin Towers and its nearby park.
