The Museum

-

Affordable and authentic Chinese cuisine is put at the forefront of The Museum, an Ipoh-born restaurant run by the same team behind Nam Heong Chicken Rice. Damask wallpaper meets Chinese medicinal drawers in the Victorian-style restaurant; we almost expected to bump into Gladys Aylward smoking an opium pipe. PJ’S outlet lacks the charm of the original restaurant in Ipoh, but is classy enough as far as shopping mall restaurants go. An auditory starter, the Museum Prawn Crackers awakens one’s appetite with every earshattering crunch. The Towing Char Siew, said to be the best in Ipoh, is indubitably tasty, but it was the crab congee cooked over a slow fire that stole our hearts. While your server may be an eager beaver, rest assured that his or her knowledge of the menu runs deep; ours made sure to pour a bit of Chinese tea into our glasses before the rest had steeped properly—a thoughtful gesture ensuring lips aren’t scalded.
