Tatler Dining Malaysia

Shang Palace

-

Shang Palace is very much a product of its time, featuring classic Cantonese fare with a number of provincial delicacies. The ambiance, setting, and menu appears untouched since the early 2000s. The menu may be broad but that’s expected of a Chinese restaurant. The décor is unsurprisingly marked by Oriental motifs and an abundance of red; dining here will probably raise your feng shui points by a lot. Food-wise, everything appears solid. Vegans can rejoice as there is an extensive list of choices to fit their diet. For everyone else, signature dishes such as the free-range chicken smoked with Chinese tea and stewed duck are flavourful and pair well with a bowl of white rice. If you’re celebrating a special occasion here, order the Peking duck. Watching the bird being rolled out on a wheeled trolley and then being sliced tableside is a strangely absorbing experience.
