Discovering Raw & Rustic Concept Store almost feels like unearthing a piece of rare stone. No one could have imagined a little handmade furniture shop situated in a secluded corner of a factory-dominated area in Sungai Buloh growing into a popular concept store. It was something even the owners themselves did not expect. Couple Liew Wee Loong and Justina Tay’s initial plan was to use the oncedeserted shop as their personal store room to keep part of the vintage pieces that they have been collecting over the years. But what they did not see coming was that passers-by were showing interest in purchasing their private collection which were on display. Unwilling to part with the treasures, the inherently dexterous Liew came up with a plan of replicating some of the designs which were on popular demand for sale. And the rest, as they say, is history. Wholly wood-panelled while fitted with articles that are of timber and metal materials, Raw & Rustic reminds us of that dreamy country retreat where we would love to curl up in on a rainy afternoon, in the company of a good book and a tasty cup of tea. Liew and Tay are more than happy to help recreate a similarly raw and industrial ambience in their customers’ residences upon request. “Not only can we customise the products according to their taste in terms of sizes and treatments (wood can be treated to look less or more weathered), we can also offer advice on interior decoration. Other than that, the space can also be rented for parties or photo shoots,” explains Tay. Apart from handcrafted furniture and stationery, quality accessories and crockery carefully sourced from China are also available in-store. In fact, there is plenty to explore in this treasure trove collection born out of sheer passion.
