Indoor and outdoor spaces become one In this sophisticated home designed by ptang studio Ltd

Setting foot in this lofty and spacious waterfront haven, one is instantly greeted by a stunning sea view. The panorama is the anchor of this Discovery Bay home, something that Ptang Studio Ltd chose to highlight when tasked with designing the space. The property has an astonishingly high ceiling, and the existing layout didn’t require any modification – as such, it was the perfect canvas for Ptang Studio Ltd to work their magic. The brief by the owners was simple and straightforward: to create an outstanding living space. Granted absolute freedom to design this two-storey house, designers Philip Tang and Brian Ip decided, first and foremost, to bring the outside in. “We aimed for a calm and comfortable feel, so we chose green as the principal colour to complement the blues of the sky and sea outside,” says Philip. The duo carried out extensive research to look for the perfect shades of green to channel the vibe they had in mind. These hues were then swathed on soft furnishings, and employed in the lighting and artwork throughout the house. For the sunlit living area on the first f loor, the designers sourced the Twist armchair and three-seater sofa from Italian brand Cantori. The decorative yet comfortable seating arrangement echoes the concept the duo infused in the master bedroom – transformation. “This kind of design is one of the best ways to portray nature,” says Brian.

The long and narrow balcony, on the other hand, was left the way it was. “The balcony connects the indoor with the surrounding natural area, so we left the space undecorated for the view to speak for itself,” adds Brian. On the staircase leading up to the second f loor is a beautiful, customised feature wall by Parisian artist Elsa Jean de Dieu. “This is our favourite piece,” says Philip. “The tranquil image of falling leaves is particularly apt for the sleeping area.” The staircase is also the ideal vantage point from which to view the whole house. On the same f loor, there is also a harmonious study especially designed for the man of the house and his daughter. The goal was to bring the outside in, and Ptang Studio did it with eye-catching elegance, rather than the usual rustic approach. Through their careful melding of the splendid outdoor view with the sophisticated interiors, Philip and Brian successfully created a sanctuary for the family to recharge their souls and reconnect with nature.
