More than just a pristine piece of musical instrument, the Masque de Femme piano is a work of art. Created in the fine hands of Lalique and Steinway & Sons, the Steinway Model B grand – widely known as ‘the perfect piano’ – is adorned with two iconic Lalique motifs namely Coutard and Masque de Femme, using 1,043 individual Lalique crystals in total. The entire crafting process is a meticulous and time-consuming one, requiring two years of development and over 500 hours of installation. The Masque de Femme piano was recently auctioned at China Guardian’s 5th anniversary Full Moon charity gala dinner in Hong Kong, raising HK$ 11.7 million (approximately RM 6.2 million). All net proceeds from the sale will benefit the Ai You Foundation for disadvantaged children in mainland China who suffer from congenital heart disease.
