KOTA KINABALU: PKR Women leaders have expressed their support to Api-Api assemblywoman Christina Liew on her recent court case against Borneo Samudera Sdn Bhd (BSSB).

PKR Beaufort Women chief, Faridah Matlani said she was impressed with Liew’s dedication towards the party especially after making an announcement that she would not be deterred from continuing her struggle for the people in spite of the High Court ruling.

“I have known Liew since 2008. Although I was not active in PKR at that time but I have been seeing her helping so many people not only from her own constituency but also all over Sabah regardless of race and religion.

“As a woman, I am personally proud to see her as one of a very vocal leaders although her struggles have been challenged by many parties.

“I also hope her move to file the notice of appeal and a stay of execution against a High Court judgement requiring her to pay damages to BSSB will be heard transparently because I believe her intention was good. From the Women Wing of PKR Sabah, we hope her appeal will be going smoothly because she is helping those 16 villagers,” she added.

Meanwhile, PKR KK information chief Jen Lim said she had been working closely with Liew in the division and she personally know that Liew is a trustworthy lawyer when doing her job.

“The recent case involving Liew and BSSB is baseless and hopefully her appeal will be reviewed according to the evidence. I must say that Liew is a leader who always listens to the rakyat and we always need a dedicated women leader like her to continue the struggle for a better Malaysia,” said Lim.

Another NGO, Gagasan Anak Muda also echoed Faridah and Lim’s statements.

Its chairman Nor Hizwan Ahmad said he knew Liew as an activist who has sacrificed her time, money and energy to help many people in the state.

“She has been helping many individuals and associations despite their political view because her intention is to help people in need. I believe her appeal should be accepted,” he added.
