-

KOTA KINABALU: The Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCCI) will not refuse the applications of Bumiputra children seeking places in the Chinese kindergartens and primary schools.

Disclosing this yesterday, KKCCCI president Datuk Michael Lui said this was because of the confidence of their parents that mastering of three languages such as the Chinese children would definitely assure them of a brighter future.

Hence, Lui has appealed to the members of the School Board members to search for solutions seriously how to maintain the standard of their Chinese Kindergarten with the dominance of Bumiputra children in the classrooms.

The School Board members should uphold the tradition of perpetuating high standard pre- school Chinese education, and at the same time how to improve the standard of Bumiputra children in mastering Chinese language and learning habits, he said during the 30th graduation ceremony of Putatan Hwa Shiong Kindergarten.

Lui assured the parents and members of the School Board that to have high percentage of Bumiputra children in Hwa Shiong Chinese Primary School and Kindergarten would in fact pose as a challenge to propagate Chinese culture and language among the Bumiputa children.

“Our children would grow up to accept each other in spite of from different racial backgrounds. Thus, tolerance, integration, and acceptance of each other has become inherent in the new culture in our society and our nation as one-Malaysia.

“Hence, the idea concurred with our Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib that i n Sabah he could find the bona fide spirit of one-Malaysia, where Sabahans of different racial groups, and multiple religious backgrounds live peacefully together, respecting each other,” he added.

Lui, meanwhile, expressed his appreciation for the Board of Directors, under the leadership of Datuk Mary Ling for yet another successful year.

On the question of increasing percentage of non-Chinese children attending the kindergarten, and whether the nature of kindergarten would remain Chinese language medium based, Lui assured that Hwa Shiong Kindergarten would remain Chinese language medium.

He also paid high tribute to 59th batch of Hwa Shiong Primary School – primary six graduates, and also the 30th batch of kindergartens pupils.
