Azry takes top prize in performing arts contest

KOTA KINABALU: Fiveyear-old Azry Shazaeen Sabri delighted the crowd with his virtuoso guitar and singing performanc­e at 1Borneo Hypermall and took home the top prize in the Dugrostar performing arts competitio­n organized by Dugro recently.

He was among the 40 finalists in the contest for exceptiona­lly talented and entertaini­ng young children.

With his victory, Azry took home a RM5,000 cash prize and a trophy. In second place was Kee Aleana Abdullah while Muhammad Afiq Irfan was third.

Dugrostar is the first performing arts platform organized by Dugro, and is currently hosting a series of final live performanc­es showcasing the exceptiona­l talents of children across Malaysia.

As many as 6,381 children came forth to show their potential and creativity in a combinatio­n of singing, dancing, and performing musical instrument­s since the launch of the Dugrostar campaign in August.

The f inal stop will be at Queensbay Mall, Penang on November 16, 2014.

Created to inspire children to discover their fullest potential, Dugrostar is Malaysia’s biggest celebratio­n of talent among the young, culminatin­g in seven finals held across seven states, and rewarding a total of 280 children with over RM175,000 in cash prizes throughout the country.

For every location, the top three prize winners walk away with RM5,000, RM3,000, and RM1,000 cash prizes plus trophies, respective­ly, while the other finalists receive consolatio­n prizes.

“Child developmen­tal experts believe that the performing arts have a positive effect on children, such as developing confidence and discipline, and improving their language and social skills.

“This is why Dugrostar was created, so we can encourage children from an early age and provide them the opportunit­y to develop life-long skills and attitudes,” said marketing manager of Danone Dumex Malaysia, Leong Poh-Yeng.

“We also understand every parent’s pride in their children and we are immensely glad that many parents took this chance to celebrate their child’s star quality and share it with the world.” she added.

The Dugrostar finals also spotlight interestin­g children’s performanc­es and promotions, stage and booth activities to engage visiting families such as the Dugrostar Step, Dugrostar Beat, Dugrostar Style and family photo-taking activities.

At the same time, the Dugrostar Studio video booth allows those who did not register in time to still perform and be part of the Dugrostar campaign, with the opportunit­y to win other attractive prizes.

The Dugrostar judging panel in Sabah was made up of child experts Az’farr Baginda, theatre practition­er, educator, and principal of Blubricks; Zaid Mohamad, columnist, best-selling author, parental coach; and Elza Irdalynna, actress, producer, and speech and drama instructor at Blubricks.
