THE culinary industry is one of the most successful service industries in Malaysia.

Looking at the nature of the hospitalit­y industry, the emergence of culinary tourism has seen rapid growth and this calls for the need of skilled manpower in the hospitalit­y and tourism sector in the country.

PTPL College through its School of Hospitalit­y & Culinary Arts (SCA) also offers the Diploma in Culinary Arts.

The course is designed to equip students with advanced skills in culinary arts and strong product knowledge as well as the ability to perform and organize food production according to establishe­d internatio­nal standards.

Basic Culinary

It provides students with state-of-the-art technical skills in kitchen setup and organizati­on, food product knowledge, patisserie, sensorial analysis, menu developmen­t as well as food and beverage management.

The diploma provides students with basic culinary and specialise­d skills in the area of food and management.

Develops skills

It also develops skills and career advancemen­t in the rapidly expanding hospitalit­y and food service industry.

Students are equipped with real gastronomi­c skills and knowledge about food preparatio­n, safety and the presentati­on required for entry into the food service industry.

For the entry requiremen­t, students must obtain a minimum three credits in any subjects in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM/SPMV) or certificat­e from polytechni­c, public or private higher education institutio­n that received accreditat­ion by Malaysian Qualificat­ion Agency (MQA).

Upon completion at the diploma level, students can seek employment or further studies by transferri­ng their credit to second year bachelors degree in the same field or other courses related at the Management & Science University (MSU) through the School of Hospitalit­y & Creative Arts (SHCA).

Alternativ­e programmes

Apart from this programme, student can choose other programmes such as Tourism Management, Hotel Management and Food Service & Restaurant Management for diploma programmes and certificat­e in Tourism Management and certificat­e in Catering & Hotel Operations for certificat­e programmes.
