THE culinary industry is one of the most successful service industries in Malaysia.
Looking at the nature of the hospitality industry, the emergence of culinary tourism has seen rapid growth and this calls for the need of skilled manpower in the hospitality and tourism sector in the country.
PTPL College through its School of Hospitality & Culinary Arts (SCA) also offers the Diploma in Culinary Arts.
The course is designed to equip students with advanced skills in culinary arts and strong product knowledge as well as the ability to perform and organize food production according to established international standards.
Basic Culinary
It provides students with state-of-the-art technical skills in kitchen setup and organization, food product knowledge, patisserie, sensorial analysis, menu development as well as food and beverage management.
The diploma provides students with basic culinary and specialised skills in the area of food and management.
Develops skills
It also develops skills and career advancement in the rapidly expanding hospitality and food service industry.
Students are equipped with real gastronomic skills and knowledge about food preparation, safety and the presentation required for entry into the food service industry.
For the entry requirement, students must obtain a minimum three credits in any subjects in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM/SPMV) or certificate from polytechnic, public or private higher education institution that received accreditation by Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA).
Upon completion at the diploma level, students can seek employment or further studies by transferring their credit to second year bachelors degree in the same field or other courses related at the Management & Science University (MSU) through the School of Hospitality & Creative Arts (SHCA).
Alternative programmes
Apart from this programme, student can choose other programmes such as Tourism Management, Hotel Management and Food Service & Restaurant Management for diploma programmes and certificate in Tourism Management and certificate in Catering & Hotel Operations for certificate programmes.
