Universiti Teknologi Petronas achieves world class rating – VC
KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) has emerged as the f irst pr ivate university in the country to receive four QS Stars rating by the world varsit ies rat ing agency, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).
UTP Vice-Chancellor Datuk Dr Abdul Rahim Hashim said UTP had improved in its overall per formance from last year, moving up from three stars to four star-rating which indicated “highly inter nat iona l” and demonstrating excel lence in both research and teaching.
He said the result included top scores of a f ive -star rating in five areas out of eight, namely graduates high employability rate, inter national feel of the community and the campus, high standard of student facilities, innovation and accessibility of the university to students.
“The QS Stars rating system is widely recognised across the world and this award will help further develop the university’s growing i nter nat iona l reputation.
“With th is recog nit ion, the university can benchmark itself with the best i nter nat iona l universities while also placing it in good stead when compared with other i nter nat iona l i nst it ut ions,” he sa id in t he statement here yesterday.
The QS Star Rating System is ut i l ised by more than 13 0 u n iversit ies i n 3 0 cou nt r ies. The rating system is an indepth analysis of a university’s system to award from one to a maximum of five stars.
It gives an overall institutional rat i ng as wel l as rat i ngs i n eight key domain areas namely teaching, employabi l ity, research, internationalisation, facilities, innovation, access and specialist subjects.
Meanwhile, Abdul Rahim said UTP had also earned a place in the QS World University Top 200 Ranking by Subject for Chemical Engineering and was the only private university in Malaysia to break into the QS Asian University Top 20 0 Ranking. – Bernama
