Use online marketing to reach 600 mln people in Asean – Jailani

-

KUALA TERENGGANU: The selection of Malaysia as Asean chairman for 2015 is the best opportunity to expand the market of medium and small enterprises (SME) through cooperatives, via online marketing.

Deputy Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Jailani Johari said the marketing of local products online could reach 600 million consumers in Asean.

“Compared to only 30 million people in the country, the market can be expanded to cover 600 million people in Asean, using information technology via online marketing,” he said after opening a Malaysian Cooperative Scenario seminar here yesterday.

He said transformation in the management of marketing of SME products via 11,378 active cooperatives in the country must be done from now.

To go into a bigger market in Asean, local businesses, specifically existing cooperative bodies, must boost the management of their respective organisations and not only depend on traditional economic activities, noted Jailani.

In the meantime, Jailani said the ministry, via the Communication and Multimedia Commission, together with the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry, would work closely in ensuring no law was f louted in online trading.

He said internet users too, must ensure companies trading online were registered with the Registrar of Companies (ROC).

“Consumers can check the data of companies with ROC before making any online transaction to avoid being cheated,” he added. – Bernama
