Easy-to-use fire extinguisher

-

KOTA KINABALU: A Malaysian-based company, Flamoff Industries Sdn Bhd, is looking for agents in Sabah to market their latest product called Flamoff, a water-based solution that acts both as a f ire extinguisher and a f ire retardant.

Its Sabah representative, Alex Lee, said it is time to introduce a simple and easy-to-operate fire extinguisher so that it can be used not only by adults but also by children.

He said the concept of Flamoff is simple. A person merely needs to hold the 650g bottle, aim, and throw it at a fire.

“The bottle, made from easily shattered polystyrene (PS), breaks and disperses the liquid within onto the fire, where a chemical reaction occurs, generating large amounts of steam and gas (mainly carbon dioxide), to retard and extinguish any flames.

“The bottle is fragile enough that even dropping the bottle less than a metre from the ground is enough to break it. The box that holds the bottle is made from polyfoam, which, Flamoff Industries says, is recyclable and serves as a protective buffer for the bottle,” said Lee during the product introduction at Sepanggar yesterday.

He f urther explained that the compounds used are environmentally friendly, and not harmful to humans or animals and plants.

Lee also stressed that Flamoff is not intended to replace current conventional fire extinguishers. Rather, they say, it is to complement existing equipment, either in extinguishing f lames, or clearing an evacuation route out of large, out of control, fires to safety.

Each bottle comes with a recommended retail price of RM138.
