JCI Outstanding Award for work on cancer care awarded to woman entrepreneur
KUCHING: A lifelong mission to help the cancer-stricken has led local entrepreneur Esther Law Lee Poh to scale greater heights, the latest of which being named one of the honorees of Junior Chamber International (JCI) Ten Outstanding Young Malaysian (TOYM) Awards 2014.
Having just returned to Kuching on Friday night, the Lundu-born career woman was overwhelmed with joy over the unexpected win for the ‘Personal Development And/Or Accomplishment’ category.
“It was a fulfilling experience as I never thought to win, especially when I was the only woman in the category. I was already happy to get the notice that I made it into the 30 finalists.
"I feel very blessed but I believe that the blessings came with the hard work and effort," she said.
Law explained that the process began with a submission last year and after the finalists had been selected, they had to go through interviews with a panel of judges.
“It was a very transparent judging process. I told the judges this was a chance to prove myself. Personal development is something compulsory regardless of what industry. My main purpose was not to get the trophy but to have a third party to judge where I am standing now,” she said.
For the past 10 years, Law kept improving herself by exploring and researching methods to help others achieve a better life, particularly in providing advisory service relating to cancer care. She is the founder of Excellence Medicare Management and Consultancy, with offices i n Malaysia and China.
The JCI TOYM Awards 2014 was held on November 12 in Penang, hosted by JCI United Penang. The awards were presented by the Penang Yang Di-Pertua Negeri (TYT) Tun Dato Seri Utama Abdul Rahman Abbas. Over 1,200 people attended the grand event.
