Pang, Salesnella win campus run
KOTA KINABALU: State athletes Pang Tsun Kuo and Salesnella Gabi emerged as the Men’s and Women’s Senior Open winners of the UMS-Carino Eco Campus Run here yesterday.
The Run covered around 7km within the Universiti Malaysia Sabah grounds, which started and ended at its sports complex.
And Pang faced little problem in topping the men’s senior open where he won RM1,000 followed by Walter Herman, Imaldy Zakin, Shyaldi Suhimi and Sapirin Sumping.
The second to fifth placed runners won RM500, RM300, RM200 and RM100 respectively plus medals and certificates for the top five.
In the women’s senior open, Salesnella was in her own class as she finished ahead of Mailin Sakungin to pocket RM500 with the latter settling for RM300.
Chong Vun Lung, Josephine Yaban and Chiah Bee Khoon, placed third to fifth, won RM200, RM100 and RM80 respectively.
The Run also contested the veteran and junior categories for men and women.
Suhaipin Surin was first in the men’s veteran followed by Madamin Gihun, Kah Che Poh, David Santi and Yamin Ali who received RM300, RM250, RM150, RM100 and RM80 respectively.
As for the women’s veteran, Hasni Salagan proved her prowess by beating Shoihi Gandihan followed by Kristina Drahmat, Esther Perng and Lena Masni. They won the prize money of RM250, RM200, RM100, RM80 and RM50.
In the men’s junior, Jomon Papau was first with Jerome Sopitin in second place while Mexron Jasli, Delbert Rubidi and Safik Jahaya settled for third to fifth placing.
Cyril Michelle Jomani topped the women’s junior, finishing the race ahead of Dewanty David, Weilah Rubidi, Erristiana Joel and Magdalina Masantu.
The top five finishers in the junior category won RM200, RM150, RM100, RM80 and RM50.
UMS director of sports Mohd Asyraaf Fong Abdullah was pleased with the response for the inaugural event.
“Close to 1,000 people were present at the event,” he said when met after the prize presentation.
The Run was held i n conjunction with the university 20th anniversary which falls on November 24.
UMS vice chancellor prof. Datuk Dr Mohd Harun Abdullah f lagged off the runners before going on to present the prizes at the end of the event.
