40 schools compete at KSKA Karate-Do Inter-School C’ship

KOTA KINABALU: The inaugural Kanazawa Ryu Shotokan (KSKA) Karate-Do Inter-School Championsh­ip attracted 257 exponents from 40 schools across the state.

The one-day competitio­n organised by KSKA Sabah was held at the SM Shan Tao Hall here yesterday.

Organising chairman Robert Lo hailed the event as a significan­t milestone in the history of KSKA Sabah.

“It (overwhelmi­ng response) also reflected the importance placed on the Youth and Sports Ministry in charting the young lives of our students in schools.

“Sports provide an excellent way of equipping our youths with the right skills, mindset and values in a world of continuous and dynamic change...through sports they learn important values such as honesty.

“Apart from that, it also teaches young people how to deal with competitio­n, how to cope with both winning and losing and much more.

“Sports also has a significan­t part to play in nation building by encouragin­g life-long participat­ion in physical activity and a healthy lifestyle for all,” Lo said in his openin g sp e e c h .

Forty-one events were contested in the championsh­ip.

Meanwhile, guestof-honour and KSKA Sabah patron Datuk Yap Pak Leong declared opened the championsh­ip.

KSKA Sabah president Datuk Alex Sham and sponsor James Lee were among those present.
