-

TUARAN: All SPM and STPM students f rom 10 secondary schools in Tuaran district will each be given RM20 to open an account under the National Education Savings Scheme or Skim Simpanan Pendidikan Nasional (SSPN).

Tuaran member of parliament Datuk Madius Tangau, said the SSPN account is important for students who wanted to pursue their studies at a higher learning institution using PTPTN education loans.

“I have discussed with the teachers and education officers in Tuaran on the importance of having a SSPN account, and I have also informed them that the RM20 will be funded by the Tuaran Parliamentary Office.

“The fund handover will be done starting early next year, and we will be inviting top officers from PTPTN to explain about the education loans,” he said.

Tangau said this to The Borneo Post after distributing the Wang Pendahuluan Pembiayaan (WPP) or Cash Advance Fund from PTPTN to Polytechnic students from Tuaran, who will be pursuing a diploma course at the end of this month, yesterday.

The WPP, which amounts to RM1,500, is provided by PTPTN for preparation of students prior to registration at IPTAs and Polytechnics.

Earlier at the event, Tangau also reminded students who have applied for PTPTN education loans that they should repay their loans to be fair to future students who would also be applying for such loans.

The event was held at the Malaysian Timber Industry Board office in Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park. Also present was Sabah PTPTN general manager, Muliati Kamaruddin.

Muliati said, as of September 30, 2014, a total of 755,432 WPP have been cashed out totalling RM1.1 billion throughout the country. 86 students from Tuaran were given the WPP totaling RM129,000 for the November 2014/2015 session.

She advised the students to use the money for educational purposes and to refrain from using the loans for personal purpose.
