KOTA BAHARU: Police yesterday released the photofit of a suspect believed to have been involved in an attempt to kidnap a 10-year-old girl at Kampung Aril, Melor here on Friday.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim said the suspect, in his 20s, was slim, spoke with a Kelantan dialect and drove an old Proton Saga car.

So far, only one suspect has been identified, he told reporters at the Kelantan Contingent Police Headquarters here yesterday.

The media had previously reported that a child, Irisha Devia, was abducted while riding her bicycle with friends in front of her house in Kampung Aril, Melor, here last Friday.

The child managed to escape from her abductor by running for one kilometre and wading through chest-high water in the paddy fields and bushes.

During the escape, Irisha sustained injuries to her body, arms and feet.

Mazlan urged the public with information about the incident to come forward and assist the police.

"We do not want this incident to be repeated and I urge the public who have seen the suspect and has information about him to report immediately to the nearest police station.

"This incident is serious and if we do not take immediate action, there is a possibility the suspect will become active again," he said. – Bernama
