Penang’s ‘Hop-On Hop-Off’ bus rides

GEORGE TOWN: The company operating the the RM11 million “Penang Hop-On Hop-Off” bus service is offering free rides for a week from yesterday to mark the launch of the service.

“We will also offer a special fare to MyKad holders of a family of two adults and two children at RM50 from Nov 24 to Dec 31,” said Elang Wah group managing director Azhar Nadzir during the launch of the much-anticipate­d Penang Hop-On Hop-Off bus service here Sunday.

For MyKad holders, the tickets are RM19 for adults and RM12 for children. Tickets are valid for 24 hours.

For non-Malaysians, tickets are priced at RM45 (adults) and RM 24 (children above five and below 12).

Elang Wah Sdn Bhd corporate executive Yusrina Mokhtar said the service would ply two routes – the Teluk Bahang- Persiaran Gurney, known as the beach route, and Persiaran Gurney-Penang Hill, known as the city route.

“The route from Persiaran Gurney to Penang Hill also covers the George Town area,’ she said, adding that the service of fers a tou r which covers 3 3 tou r ist spots on Penang Island.

“Passengers can stay on the tour for the full tour, or hop-on or hop-off at any one of the stops.

"The concept is similar to the KL HopOn Hop-Off bus.

“The tour will run from 9am to 8pm daily, seven days a week,” she said.

The 10 double-decker buses for the service is air-conditione­d but the front hal f of the upper deck is an open-air section. It can seat 60 passengers and is equipped with disabled-friendly features.
